Music: The Weeknd

Another week, another gig. Some of you are hopefully not strangers to The Weeknd, but if you are, I’m glad to be intoducing you to his music. With a falsetto that is often compared to Michael Jackson’s and a slow, moody tempo of songs to match, he’s perfect if you want to try a new type of R&B sound. He burst onto the scene with the all-time favourite ‘House of Balloons’ and a feature on Drake’s ‘Crew Love’ and he hasn’t left.

The Canadian recording artist just finished his 4-day run at the Electric Ballroom in Camden and I managed to catch him on his last day. If you’re ever wanting to capture as many underground-indie-hip-hop-lovin’ hipsters as you can, then The Weekend concert is your best bet. And The Weeknd didn’t disappoint: with awesome lighting, a surprisingly energetic and even more awesomely talented band supporting him and the intimacy of the venue, it was a great insight into a guy who previously was an enigma, avoiding performances. (Pictures from the gig will be up soon!)

Great album!

Great album!

Best way to describe his music: moody R&B with hints of  electro, indie and hip-hop

Favorite songs: House of Balloons & High for This (only putting two videos up, but What You Need, Loft Music and Dirty Diana are also up there for me)
